i have a 89 camaro with tbi it idles high ive changed the iac and chased all the vaccuum hoses and i cant find anything outta place it does have an idle at 2000 and a driving down the highway at 3500 at 45 and 4500 at 60 im out of ideals need some advice on how to fix it ive put a new tac directly up to the coil and its right on the dash gauge so i know its right it has a 305 with a 5 speed

 

does the motor actually feels like its going at 4500 rpm ? Really if ur engine is going 4500 rpm u should atleast be doing 100+ mph in 5 gear on the highway , i think ur problem is somewere else. Even tho u used a different tac directly on the coil there could be a false reading being send from somewere else.

 

is the 2,000 rpm at idle when it's in neutral? As for the 4500 rpm at 60mph, in what gear do you have it?

Seriously, find someone with a dwell/tachometer or a more expensive timing light with tach and verify.

 

at netural its idleing at 2000 and when im driving down the road in gear its at 3500 when i push the clutch in it hovers there untill i start to stop and when i get to a complete stop its slowly returns to 2000 i had it put on timming light at my friends mechanic shop and it read right on the money i thought that the tach i had might been off but both of my tachs are on and it soulds like its doing to 2000 when i crank it up it spikes to 4500 and returns to 2000 when i crank it
and my cruise controll dont work

 

Can you see the IAC functioning? Key on engine off you should see it cycle. Same if you jumper the ALDL. It may be stuck open? check fuse.
