Ok, here is my TBI 350 engine combo. Ready for opinions.
Ok, here is my TBI 350 engine combo. Ready for opinions.
After doing some research, and with the help of some members on this forum...well, here goes.
94 TBI 350
flat top 4 vr pistons, .030
Revised Procomp 190cc heads with 64cc chambers
Comp Cams 12-262-4 cam, lifters, and springs
Holley Projection TBI intake
1 5/8" headers, 3" exhaust with 3" Flowmasters
Now for some questions:
Should I use 1.5 or 1.6 ratio roller rockers?
What should I do about the TB? Modify the factory GM TB, or buy one already bored and flowed?
I am very new to TBI. How should I get started on tunning. I would like to do a EGR delete, and anything elese that is not needed.
What kind of power would this combo make with a good tune? I will be using this in my 70 Chevelle with 4.10 gears as a DD. However, I will be using a built 93 4L60E automatic OD. I would like to retain the stock TQ in the trans.
I really want to get as much power as I can out of this engine, but also need to get at least 17 to 18 MPG. Does anyone think this is possible with my gearing, and parts combo? Sorry for all the questions, but I am just about ready to get started ordering parts. I need to get this car on the road very soon so I can park my diesel truck before fuel is $5 gal. Thanks for any help. And thanks for all the help so far...
Shawn

I might add, the Procomp heads have had a bad rep with some people. However, they have revised the castings and are supposed to be much better... I dont know this for a fact, but its what I have read. Unless Im completely talked out of the heads by someone with more knowledge of them, I will be ordering bare castings and having my local machinest grind valves, seats, and set up the heads. But they sure look tempting at under $400 for a pair of aluminum heads???

It does look pretty good. Thier are sites that offer throttle body boring. Cfmtech.com i Belive does. I have a holley tbi im going to be putting on so I cannot offer advice on that. But it is 670 CFM so it should be more than enough air. I dont think you'll have problems with those heads. are they for centerbolt engines? (will the manifold you chose work with them for sure?) I really think you'd be making a mistake keepting the stock torque converter in the transmission from a performance persepctive. Especially with 4.10 gears. If your going to daily drive have you put into thought maybe some 3.55's or 3.23's to help with MPG?
Oh and also on a side note. I have a New in box transgo shiftkit for that transmission if you'd like to purchase it PM me!

Compcams Camquest6 also shows some other grinds that appear to give a little more.
Any reson not to consider a hydraulic roller cam? should also easy make arond 30hp more.

cost is a factory for him. a 94 truck 350 tbi block isnt factory roller. so he'd have to buy roller lifters for non roller blocks or a factory roller setup. I'd go roller if it was me but its not my $$$

I would hate to see you go through a costly rebuild to make mediocre power. If in good shape I would only spend money on a TBI set-up like that if I had a good shortblock and the tuning equipment available. You might want to look into an LT1 swap. They are getting cheaper and cheaper and would give you the MPG you are looking for without busting the bank. I recently saw an LT1 T56 combo with 70k miles go for $1300. No way you will spend less than that on a 350 TBI "performance rebuild".
