tbi supercharger
Ok, so I am in the process of installing a wynjammer supercharger on to my 305 tbi. I will post some pictures of the install progress. I have the ebl computer and other mods listed in my profile. I had to run bigger 90lb injectors and decided to run an external fuel pressure regulator with vacuum reference. I am going to be running a 2 bar map sensor as well. I had to go back to the stock pulley setup and ditch my march pulleys, but currently i am waiting for a new belt. For some reason the stock belt was too tight so after checking everything over i decided to order a slightly longer belt to remedy the problem.
As for my stock belt being too tight, does anyone know why this might be possible. I have a 91 so it is a single belt setup with an automatic tensioner(all stock components are there), so there are no adjustment points for loosening up the slack. I routed the belt the way it is supposed to be routed and no matter what i tried it was still too tight. I can get the belt all the way on but when i let go of the tensioner, it doesnt fall between the two marks on the tensioner, it barely moves actually and the belt has no slack. I tried to start the motor but i can hear the motor fighting against the belt to try to start.

sure its a stock belt? are you absolutely sure you have routed properly? does the tensioner move freely?

Re: tbi supercharger
yeah its the stockl belt, i tried two different stock ones to make sure. They are 94.5 inches in length if i am not mistaken. I followed the diagram for the belt setup, and even tried the alternate method for serpentine setup routing but it was still too tight. I am thinking its possibly then tensioner, but there is no slack in the tensioner itself and it takes some work to move it to get the belt on. Ill take a picture so you can see how tight it is. The second picture shows where the two triangles on top are when the belt is on and from what i understand the top triangles should fall between the far left triangle and first triangle on the bottom. Either way the belt is so tight that if i push on it it barely moves.

Maybe the ribs of the belt don't mach the grooves of the pulleys. (I use ACDELCO Part # 6K945)
Do you have the Blow Off Valve?

Re: tbi supercharger
yeah i have a blow off valve. i tried an ac delco belt also, it didnt seem to matter. The only thing i can think of is that the tensioner is not working right. Ill see what happens when i get the longer belt and see how it goes.

Re: tbi supercharger
Don't worry so much about the tension "range indicator" as the actual belt tension & tensioner stops. It looks good with that belt as the tab is midway between the stops.
I would be concerned that a longer belt would lack required tension after break-in.
Your slow crank is unrelated, trust me.
Welcome to real roddin...it ain't no bolt-on.

Yeah I bet it needs tuning. I know they send it with a chip right? But are you going to get into EBL tuning?

Re: tbi supercharger
no i am still tuning with the narrow band o2 sensor, which makes it worse to tune. my next investment will be a wideband. But i should be able to get it running well enough with the narrow band and then fine tune it when i get the wideband

What sort of power does that put out and does anyone have any videos of a 305 with a supercharger on so I can hear it?

Re: tbi supercharger
once i get it running i will take a quick video and post it.
Stupid me, i have been having fuel issue with the car running lean even when i had the pressure way up and i couldnt figure out what the deal was. Well a friend of mine pointed out to me that i am running the wrong 454 injectors, so i have to get the correct injectors and all should be good.

Re: tbi supercharger
still working on it, got the right injectors now. took for a few drives, but its too rich at the moment so i am working with rbob to get it tuned in. once i am confident in its tune and i do a few full runs to check boost i will post a video. It sounds awesome though i gotta admit.

Can you take a video of you rev'in it? Thats just idle. Or is it bucking because of not being tuned? I'm really interested!
Plus would you post mods so I know when you rev i have an idea of sound difference.

Re: tbi supercharger
still have it, but had a problem with my fuel regulator so i switched to a vrfpr. I am in the process of redoing the whole car and removing the motor to redo the engine compartment so i havent done any more tuning. It requires a decent amount of modifcations and upgrades so be ready for it, but it is a nice kit.
Re: tbi supercharger
Id like to hear more how the supercharger is working out for you.
Thinking about it for the future of the 355 TBI in my truck.
How has it held up so far?
Sounds like Al is great to work with and I can imagine that alone would be beneficial. Its good to have service for stuff like these things that can potentially have issues. I hear that Whipple has virtually no service because of them discontinuing the Whipple for these older small blocks with TBI.
Let me know
Thanks for your help.,
Ulysses
