What is this sensor?

I removed the coolant bypass valve and after removing all that stuff i noticed this sensor mounted on a bracket on the passenger side next to the distributor cap. It has a two wire electrical connection and two vacuum ports. The vacuum ports i must have blocked off 10 years ago when i redid the car. What does it do. obviously i dont really need it if i have been driving my car without a problem for 10 years. Hear are some pics.
