Fuel pump? whirs and bubbles.

Ok, so this is sounding like a fairly common problem. I've been doing my research and I have a fairly good idea where to go, but I wanna just throw my thoughts out here and the specifics of my problems and see if anyone can steer me in the right direction.

I went to start the car today, and noticed a whirring coming from the rear of my car. initially thought it was either my speaker getting interference, or my trunk motor doing something weird. unplugged both, same problem. I only notice it when I put the key in the on position. whirring noise for possibly 2 seconds or so, then a bubbling noise from the back. thought gas was boiling, but it goes away after I turn the car off for a few seconds.

got on here and found similar things, except no one seems to only have bubbling when key is on, then stops when off. I'm inclined to think that it has something to do with possibly a clogged fuel line, or something else along those lines. I'm going to check fuel pressure, check lines for clogs, and if all else fails pull the tank and check pump, relay, etc. all that good stuff. What I'm wondering is if this sounds resonable to think(fuel problem of some kind) or if I'm on the wrong track and missing something stupidly simple. The other reason I've been thinking its something along these lines is because off and on for no real reason, I keep having problems in the heat with hesitation from stop, loss of power, all that jazz. Seems completely random, only common thing is the heat makes it worse. Hopefully someone on here has an idea, and sorry for the long-winded post.

I've also already replaced the fuel filter like a month ago, didn't solve my problems

tried again now that it cooled down, it still whirrs but doesn't bubble, and I also noticed that every time it whirrs, right as it stops, something makes an audible "click" coming from the front. either under the hood or under the dash. no clue what that is. ideas?

Re: Fuel pump? whirs and bubbles.

the click is the fuel pump relay clicking. the buzzing sound is the fuel pump engaging. The relay engage the fuel pump on key on engine off, after the car starts it switches to the oil pressure switch to provide the voltage to the fuel pump. The car is running fine correct?

Re: Fuel pump? whirs and bubbles.

For the most part runs fine. absolutely no problems when its not too hot out. runs beautiful at night. But during the day, I've had it bog down, try and stall, surge, all kinds of little problems. seems random, only thing thats always the same is that its always hot out when I have problems. It just freaked me out when I heard the fuel pump start making noises where it never has before. I figure Ill probably end up replacing the pump and relay, and cleaning out the gas tank and return lines while I have it dropped. cant hurt it, so I figure why not.

Re: Fuel pump? whirs and bubbles.

Sounds like the rubber line that connects the pump to the hard line has deteriorated. That would cause the "bubbling" youre talking about. You will know for sure when you get the pump out.

There's a long thread on here somewhere about fuel overheating and stalling in hot weather. Seems to be a common problem and so far nobody has figured it out.

Yeah I think the thread is in the TPI section. I have never experienced anything of the sort

Re: Fuel pump? whirs and bubbles.

Yep I've been looking at that thread. I'm really hoping my fuel isn't overheating. I don't think it is. Got my fingers crossed that this will be a relatively straightforward fix. I'm gonna be doing a deep clean on my entire fuel system and hope to god it clears up. I've been having the heat screwing with it ever since I got it running and it drives me crazy. If this finally gets rid of this crap I'm gonna be so happy.
