I am looking at 2 options here and need some opinions. I just bought a 92 firebird with a TBI 305. Although the car is in really good shape, I can't stand the "slowness" compared to my GTA that I sold 2 yrs ago with the TPI 350. I am looking into ordering a mini ram from TPiS. I have been in contact with them and one of the techs said "We generally don't run many 305 engines with Mini-Rams, but we do have one here now that has some SR Torquer heads and nice street cam that runs suprisingly well. This is a 1987 Car. With your 92 Model, you can install one, but you'll want a good rear gear such as a 3.23 or deeper and different heads or a cam always are a good addition." What do you guys think?
Option #2 One of my buddies at work has a 383 stroker motor that has all the parts but has never been put together. All I would need is all of the intake stuff. Heads that he has have already been ported and polished.

Now I know the 383 would be the best choice if I want to go through all of that hassel, but I am not sure I really want to go that route. I just am looking for a bit stronger running motor. "I am more show" When I have extreme power under my right foot I usually find the red and blues behind me. I have paid more than my share to the state of WI.

So, what do you guys think of the mini ram idea. Is is worth it or not. Anyone running one on their 305?

I'm still getting pulled over with a 305 TBI, could you use a miniram with the 383? It'd be a win-win situation

 

Upgrade the rear end to a 3.23 or 3.42 gear, and ditch the factory exhaust from the manifolds back. The 305 can't breathe or be in the powerband that it can use - the exhaust and the rear end will wake up the 305.

 

To do a intake swap like that you'll have to change the wiring harness, ecm, & the fuel pump.
I'd get a 350 vortec, tbi vortec intake, & a good exhaust. You'll need 350 injectors too. You'll make a good 40hp over the 305, plus the extra torque won't care what gears you have.

 

There is no point to swap intake and FI, on the LO3, up to around 270hp.
