And then they started talking about GNX's, catalitic converters, carb vs tbi, motercycles, ethonal, passing emissions test .etc....
Re: 305 strait six swap?
well, youll understand while that is a little off topic it doesnt stray far, as i was concearned when i changed engine i would fail emmisions, depending of if i kept a tbi engine or swapped to a carb, then i abondoned and engine swap and thought about just an induction swap, and if i would still pass emmisions that way. the ethanol and motocycles was them explaining to me why i wouldnt

Re: 305 strait six swap?
There was a 305 straight-6 from back in the day, but it was a BIG engine, and would not come close to fitting.
If you wanted to be somewhat unique, a 4.3L V6 would be fairly easy to put in, and with the later heads, upgraded SFI system with good injectors, and a good exhaust, they would make way more power than the stock TBI V8 and pass emissions. Theres probably a lot of them floating around in the yards. The models to keep your eyes peeled for are the 96-02 PU/Express Van models with the L35. The 00-02 are the better ones to get if you get the whole system (engine, harness, and PCM). Probably would want to snag the 4L60-E trans as well.

Most anything can be made to pass a sniffer.
Hardly anything can be made to pass a visual.
Goddamn near nothing can be made to pass in Cali.
Quit worrying about smog. Get your V8 running right and enjoy it.
