Carbed 2.8 to TBI
What are my options (if any) to convert a carbed 2.8 to TBI?
Originally i was going to just upgrade my carb setup but in reality it seems like TBI has more potential and suits future work id like to have done.
Ive read over the stickies so unless i missed somethign i didnt see much info on what im looking for. Everything seemed more related to cars already equiped with TBI and most if not all are V8 related.
Thanks

I like this idea, do you have emission testing where you live?
I'd start by going to the junkyards & look for a 86-92 s10, try to find a complete one. I'd get the entire motor, even if its bad. That way you'll know you have all the sensors, distributor, fuel lines, ect, might even do a serpentine conversion while your at it. Get the wiring harness, ecm, emissions sticker (vaccum diagram) & relays that operate the fuel pump.

I figured that was going to be the cheapest route. lol
Ive found some kits online but they run nearly 2 grand. The problem with junkyard hunting is i live in an apartment and will be moving again in roughly 6 months to a place with no space for the extra stuff.

You'll definetly need a good spot to keep & work on your car, these conversions can take time. Do you have another car to get around in?
Heres another idea I saw another member here do, he had a 2.8l w/ those varijet carbs. It was giving him trouble, so he got a different carb. (like off a late 70s 3.8l buick or chevy v6), found a 2.8l tbi intake, & drilled a new bolt pattern over the tbi pattern (which is wide & flat).
This is something you could do while still driving your car, get the intake & carb. together then swap it over on a weekend. You'll want to get a vacuum advance distrbutor too, look for an 1982 s10 2.8l (federal emissions) dizzy.

I do have another vehichle to drive so thats not really a problem. Im just trying to figure out the best options for a conversion while i have time over the winter. If i can finding a used TBI setup off an S-10 will be best unless i want to buy a new intake setup.
