blown headgasket/bad intake gasket? opinions needed.

It appeared my headgasket blew on my 91 305 camaro(rough idle sweet smelling exhaust/white smoke bubbles in radiator) well I tore the top end of the engine down. Checked both headgaskets and it appeared both were fine didn't see anything wrong with it but the heads did have a black oily water on the exaust valves of the heads any ideas what the problem was? I'm getting my uncle who owns a machine shop to check it out and also possibly do some work to the heads and intake while there off. (the engine that's in it is a jasper 305.) Also anyone know if it would be worth it to mess with the stock heads and intake what kinda gains is expect? I was also going to deleat the egr since I live in a non emission state.

you can only port the swirlies so much but to take advantage you need to change your lift and duration (camshaft) and that means a new tune (not an easy proposition)

Get a junkyard vortec 350, 4 bbl. vortec intake, & a tbi adaptor. I wouldn't put any money into a 305 that been overheated.

the OP might not have the cash to rebuild an engine from the junk yard. Surely you are not suggesting to just toss in an unknown junk engine into a car?
