Re: tbi questions
The oil pressure sending unit (the chinese specials from the auto parts store) are known to go bad right from the start. My 89 TBI car did not read right until the 2nd new sender in two days was installed from Auto Zone.
That sucks but that's how it is. You just keep trying until you get a good one. Do you have three wires in your plug going to it? The two fat ones are for the fuel pump and the small one is for the gauge. You should be able to ground the skinny one to make the gauge work on the dash while someone else is watching. That will tell you if the gauge is working. If you have four wires in the plug, then the two fat ones are still for the fuel pump and the two skinny ones are for the gauge. Don't ground the skinny ones out but hook them together and they should make the gauge run.
I can't remember how many pins are in it but I was thinking mine was three.

i will replace the temp sensor. i really hope that is the problem it seams like when its in closed loop its running the best and strongest until it hits 240* and starts getting pissed at me for not replacing the fan switch. getting things back to stock performance is hard when everyone before you screws everything up

im going to order a new gauge sending unit and hopefully that will work. im tired of stairing at 0 oil pressure all the time.
what wire is the right one for the cooling fan? i have a few different green wires that are just cut and are now laying to the side of the engine bay and i cant figure out which one is it. theres atleast 2 green wires that im sure do two completely different things

At any rate, with your hacked wiring and all, if you make your fan circuit look like the schematic it is guaranteed to work, even if its not 1991 spec.
You may need to buy a new coolant max temp switch if the 1991 engine does not have it.

My internet is not the best over here, so as picture quality goes you will most likely need to download the picture to your PC first, then use your picture viewer to enlarge or enhance the picture as necessary.
Good luck!

Re: tbi questions
well. i bought the rad fan switch and a connector. installed both and connected the wire to the green/white wire nothing. no fans once it gets to 250*. fans work. i ran a hot straight to battery. work great. so what i did was i ran a switch into the car with the inline 30 amp fuse and a matching switch. connected to the battery and works like a charm.
on a brighter note. im now getting all of the parts together for a carb 350 swap.

Re: tbi questions
I'm planning to upgrade my 305 TBI engine replacing key parts for better performance that is badly needed for my 92 Camaro RS. I just made a list of parts needed and the most significant parts are the Heddman Headers with a complete Borla exhaust while the engine will have the pulleys replaced with March machinery aluminum and a spacer on the TBI while I have the K&N air intake assembly. I'm thinking about replacing the cylinder Heads with aluminum heads with 1.5 rocker arms making them taller. What brands and parts do you recommend?

Re: tbi questions
If your gonna put all that into it then you might as well swap the block for a 350 or something bigger.
Operation 355 is in full effect i got my 750 carb today. Ill be posting pictures of my 1970 chevelle race car.

Re: tbi questions
Why are you ditching your TBI now? Do you not want to learn to tune it? Or do you just like carbs better?
Just curious. Glad to see things progressing. Its starting to look like a daily driver!
Keep up the good work.

Re: tbi questions
It seems like a lot of frustration to get a poor stock fuel injection system to work properly without restriction. Especially with a 355 coming soon i dont feel like messing around with the tuning and finding everything to make it run. I have a holley dual feed double pumper 750 off my cousins cutlass.
Just put a new distributor in the chevelle. Runs like a monster heres a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3prf...PYSNWDtz-otsE=

Re: tbi questions
You can say its a lot of work, because it will be, but its not a poor fuel injection system. There is the ongoing debate over "wet flow" intake systems versus port injection, and TBI shares those characteristics with the carburetor.
There are TBI guys here who make big power, but it can be a pain to learn all the secrets of the trade. In the long run though, I like ECM controlled fuel injection better because its easier to get the dual personalities of good highway economy for long trips and killer power on the street. My carb experiences allow me an "either-or" type of situation, with my closest compromise being the Quadrajet.
But I'm a budget guy too, and I'm all for the "use what ya got" philosophy.
Good luck and I'll be watching to see how it turns out.

Re: tbi questions
i didnt mean to say poor fuel injection system. i mean its great for a daily driver but if i were to tune and build on fuel injection id either go tuned port with the fast management system or like a holley efi type of thing. which are both COMPLETELY out of my budget. im working with part time hours here.
but i certainly will post back here what i happen to get the best benefit out of. ill probably stay tbi until i finish the other engine

Re: tbi questions
Well, I suggest doing a lot more research on TBI before throwing it overboard.
I used to say the same things you are saying, but then I spent weeks on this site in the TBI sections, reading everything about getting them to run well, making them perform, and I could not believe all the stuff in here.
It seems that tuning is the key. ECM tuning I mean, after the mechanicals are all worked out. It doesn't cost much to get the software and the few hardware tools necessary to burn chips and the rest is just experience. In a setup like you have, this is the best way to do things. Like me, you have much more time than money ahhahahha. That's your advantage!
Anyway, I am encouraging you to start burning chips for your car with an old laptop and to not give up. It will cost you money for new fuel lines and all the other stuff to make the car carbureted anyway, so money is going to spent.
Good luck!

Re: tbi questions
True, though two TBI TB's is not an easy task, by that time I would personally go with port injection and EBL flash, if 1st gen SB has to be.
Im still courious about his 355 build.

Re: tbi questions
355 build has been scrapped. i got prices for everything and it is FAAAAAAAAR beyond my budget. i was at around 710 and that didnt include head work or machine work. that was just the price for cam rebuild kit with pistons and rods. not to mention another 100 for the price of the block and crank.
i will run my 305 until it dies. i have been busy doing a lot of body inspection on the car. the driver side floor board is rusted really bad. it has become seperate from the body of the car

Bud,did i specifically call you out for anything? i left a question mark on a thread because i couldn't delete a mis-post.
did i add anything to the thread? if anyone is attacking someone its you, maybe stand back and take a look at how
it played out, self realization will do . an apology isn't necessary but would be appreciated.
in the future if someone adds something to an old thread or happens to post,if it doesn't apply to you just let it go,ok friend?
