I have a 92 bird with a stock 350 TBI i swapped out the 305 that was in there last year. and im looking into some heads and a cam but i dont know which ones will bolt up to the tbi setup. I already have a holly 670cfm throttlebody a performer intake manifold with hooker 2460's. My question is what heads and cam will fit this app. I want to squeeze as many horses out of the setup as possible please help.

 

Check the vortec head & intake swap. I think theres a sticky on it. Its under Budget Build.

 

I guess it all depends on how much money you have and how much work you want to do. Since you want to run your manifold I would just get a good set of aluminum heads. You would have just as much in a set of vortecs and a new intake manifold. As far as a cam goes just depends on what you are looking for.

If you want to retain the non-vortec intake (the one that you have) you have many options. Assuming that you have a stock 350 with dish or 4 valve reliefs in the pistons I would try to locate 62 to 67cc heads. Depending on the block deck height, head gasket type and actual pistons I would shoot for a street friendly CR of 9.0 to 9.5:1. The next choice is Aluminum vs. Iron. Next is size of your wallet - your budget. Aluminum heads will make a bigger dent in your wallet, but difference between CI and AL is not that great. The cost of machine work involved reworking a set of '060/906 heads vs. purchasing quality after market heads will be small. You have to do a total cost of the engine vs. trying to compare vortec against other heads.

Camshaft selection depends on if you have roller or non roller 350 block. Do you know??

Recommendations from my garage for street 350.

For CI heads I had good results with World Products 043650 S/R, SBC Iron Head, 1987+, 67cc. Heads are reasonably priced (better overall cost vs. so called rebuilt heads) and flow better than any conventional stock head right out of the box. Or if budget permits step to 042660 - S/R Torquer SBC Iron Head, 67cc with 2.02/1.60 valves.

For AL head there are more than a dozen choices. My favorite for mid-mild performance are Trick Flow Super 23, 195, 62cc heads. These are great for serious 350 street build. These are reasonably priced and offer good performance straight out of the box.

Naturally, there are numerous other choices, ranging from reworking OE castings, Chinese knock-offs, and prime heads from performance USA vendors. Budget constraint always enter into selection process. What ever you do some research on your own and ask questions.

Im not sure if its a roller or non roller block its what ever comes stock in a 1990 350. I dont have a budget per say I would like to spend no more than a few grand on these mods. Its not a must that I keep the non vortec intake I dont mind switching over. Whats the address to the World Products web site I would like to check those heads out.
