Run high flow fuel pump on tbi and pressure regulator?
I just diagnosed my car to have a bad fuel pump so I came to wonder if it's possible to use a high performance fuel pump (something equivalent to an LS1 pump - planning on LS1 swap in near future) with the stock TBI system? I know it would be too much pressure from common sense, so would a fuel pressure regulator allow my car to run with that much of a pump? I'm just trying to eliminate doing this fuel pump swap again and I haven't even got started on my first try lol. I'm not sure if this is a stupid question but feel free to make me feel stupid if I sound stupid!

A higher flowing pump will work ok as long as the regulator & return line don't become the restriction in the system. I have a tpi pump on my tbi 350, I can set my pressure at any point between 9-18psi, above that the regulator bottoms out & the pressure spikes to over 40psi. A walbro 255 seems like a good start.

I use the AC Delco Vortech pump, same rating as the LS pump in OE stock form. Its a little noisier than the TPI pump but the output is better.

That's the pump in our 89 TBI car. It runs great!
