Hello

First of all: Yes i did use the search function but i couldn'd find what i'm looking for.

I'm thinking about buying the complete Edelbrock Performer Package.
- Intake Manifold - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-3704
- Cylinder Heads - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-60859
- Camshaft - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-3702

I was hoping that someone could give me some feedback on these parts. I know that most people would just replace the engine with a 350 but that is not an option for me, because of the german laws. Emissions are also a big problem. I did find some information here on single parts, but not as a complete package. From what i read, people prefer cheaper and/or more agressive parts.

Why do i want this package?
- Power (i don't expect it to become a rocket, maybe ~200hp?)
- Convinience (all parts included + chip)
- Low emissions (very important in germany)
- Looks (yes you read it right, i'd pay for that aluminium look )

It's a lot of money for a bit of performance, so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Big thanks in advance

Re: Edelbrock Performer Package (Full)
Skip that intake as it is no better then the stock one.
Skip that cam as it is a flat tappet, your current engine has a roller cam, get a roller cam for it.

Heads, they bolt up, are emissions legal and appear to be a good choice. Need to see what kind of compression ratio the 60cc chambers provide. And if the valve springs are OK with the roller cam you end up going with.

Note that those heads use a different spark plug then the stock heads. Autolite 3923 is a good choice.

Note that you also need to budget in tuning, larger injectors or higher fuel pressure, and a better fuel pump (a TPI pump will do it).

Re: Edelbrock Performer Package (Full)
Tuning shouldn'd be necessary. There is a new chip included.
I read about the weak fuel pump but i thought it would only become a problem if you try to get much more power. Like 300hp or so. Edelbrock should mention this...
I don't know much about engines, that's why i want a full package and not a random mix of parts. Guess i just leave it like it is

Re: Edelbrock Performer Package (Full)
"tuning shouldn't be necessary"..... even if that chip got you close you'll still need to dial the system in to get it running properly because off the shelf chips are like mail order brain surgery. Rbob has the best tuning set up on the market for these cars right now and I know because I've used it for years. It's not that hard to get into, just requires a bit of a learning curve.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Package (Full)
another thing one needs to remember. ALL CARS ARE DIFFERENT EVEN IF THEY CAME OFF THE LINE RIGHT NEXT TO EACH OTHER. NO 2 CARS TUNE OR RUN THE SAME. it will need tuning.

hey RBOB what intake do you like sir????

Do you have a link to the package?

Your opening post was to individual pieces.

Here is a link to the package:
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...packages.shtml

It doesn't really give you much information but if you check the description of the intake
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_...rmer-tbi.shtml
It says "No chip changes or computer mods required unless entire 5.7L Power Package (manifold, cam, heads) is used. Computer chip is supplied free of charge with proof of purchase of manifold, cam and heads."

I read a few threads about tuning the TBI and it was my impression that everybody just hates it. Also it sounds terribly complicated.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Package (Full)
Not sure what to tell you. Will also need push rods for a flat tappet cam, the roller cam push rods in your current engine are shorter.

I'd venture to guess that packages such as this are another reason folks say that TBI is no good. The stock injectors flow just enough for the stock engine. Now add heads & cam (intake is same as stock), and the injectors will go static and the power will drop off.

Or worse case go so lean that the engine starts to misfire.

Since you are in Munich Germany (great city - been there many times) getting parts there is not cheap or easy for that matter. You can increase fuel pressure with a stiffer spring along with upgraded fuel pump. Stock fuel pressure is factory rated between 9 to 13 PSI - I would go for 14 to 17 PSI range - this will support 220 HP with stock 55 lb-Hr injectors. AC-Delco EP376 should be enough to support 220HP level. Fuel pumps can be sourced in Germany rather easily. BOSCH (probably) makes an equivalent pump. Do not go crazy with fuel pressure.

As for a roller cam an LT1 pullout or Comp Cam 08-300-8 (duration @ 0.050 206/210) are good choices (with a stock bottom end 305) and should get you close to 200+ HP mark with decent street manners. I would steer away from flat tappet cam especially in Europe. European formulated engine oils have very low levels of Zinc and Phosphorous due to Euro 5 standards. Alternately, you may have to use engine oils formulated for older high performance cars such as ELF excellium 5W40 or 10W50 (produced by Total). Mobil 1 15W-50 is a European formula with higher ZDDP levels API SN/SM ACEA A3/B3 (expensive !)

Tuning will be required, there is no way around it due to better flowing heads and cam. Also, there is question of emission testing that this car maybe be subject to.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Package (Full)
In above post I goofed and change from flat tappet 12-249-4 to roller lifter cam 08-300-8 or even 08-302-8.

If you have emmishions then you need EGR and that rules out my favorite the Edel 2 barrel Victor carb intake with adapter plate.

Holley has an EGR TBI intake raeed to 6000-6500 rpms.

Re: Edelbrock Performer Package (Full)
So that edelbrock manifold would flow like stock? I know a lot of lack of power is cause they were just completly terrible flowing top end from throttle body to the heads

Tjat was RBobs comment in #4.

In my post #12 both those flow better than stock with the Edel 2 BL flowing the best however has no EGR. Holley does have EGR. I believe you can retro fit EGR.
