5.0l TBI running on LPG ( propane?)

Hi everyone,

Soon to be fitting LPG to my 1990 5.0l RS Camaro, was wondering if anyone has pictures of systems fitted? Maybe some information on some mods that will be done while doing the LPG conversion, shall be doing shorty headers, linking into 2.5/3" exhaust (no cat fitted and all smog control taken off) will be learning about EPROMs tunning. I wanted to do cam to, but money is short at the min.

Was mostly wondering if anyone has any experience in such things? Pictures, info and advice would be mostly appreciated.

I'm in the UK, so emissions are not Necessary, and LPG is needed as fuel is £1.40 a litre where LPG is 64p a litre and pretty much the same efficiency as fuel. I also want to keep TBI.

Thanks, Carl.

I have seen a mixer bye impco in the mid 90's when I attended classes at a gm training center.

Are you going to do dual fuel or just convert to LPG entirely? I HIGHLY recommend keeping the ECU to control spark. I think you will be much happier with the driveability with the computer controlled timing vs a mechanical distributor with vacuum advance. LPG likes a slightly different curve and (usually) less advance vs its petrol counterpart. Have you looked at DynamicEFI's EBL? You should also be able to run thinner headgaskets aswell to up compression and as a bonus get a better quench. This will help reap the benefits of LPG.

If you are interested I also have (in PDF format) a copy of Diagnostic Guide to Alternative Fuels by Franz Hofmann. PM me your email address and I can send it to you. Might be worth a read, I originally got it to help a friend get his LPG powered dump truck running better.

Had a good read of that post Tuned, thank you.

Will be going duel fuel, sticking a sandwich plate between the manifold and the throttle body. I plan on making it so the lpg just shuts of the fuel and injectors.

First time I've seen that EDL that's a pretty handy bit of kit! Think when I finally get some more money in I may have to invest.

The plan was to higher compression in the Long run, what are the size of valves in the heads of a 305? Also any ideas if they can be skimmed, and if so how much?

And that would be awesome! Thank you very much.
