What part of the vacuum system is this?
I have some sort of vacuum leak from that gray tree I circled. What do these lines connect to? What's that thing above the exhaust manifold and valve cover towards the bottom of the picture. And what's the other thing closer to the air cleaner, but also at the bottom of the picture?
This is on the passenger side of the engine by the way.

a.i.r. system consisting of a pump, switching valves (under black cover), lines to exhaust manifolds & cat w/ shrader valves.
Re: What part of the vacuum system is this?
No schrader valves on the AIR system. The schrader valve near the circle is part of the AC accumulator.
As alluded to in the prior post, none of that is part of the "vacuum system" except for the vacuum signal to the diverter valve.

Re: What part of the vacuum system is this?
That explains why its not in the vacuum diagram. Is it normal for it to be sucking in air there? Because when I put my hand there, its clearly sucking in air and the engine shakes a little less. After I taped it up, the engine starts with less cranking. (Having a crank 3 times for 5 seconds, then starts right up problem, warm or cold).

meant to say check valve, my bad. There are 3, one on each manifold and 1 to the cat con, tube mounted off firewall.

On all three hoses? It wasnt doing this before, maybe something went bad.
I still dont know what the air pump is or where it is in the picture.
I understand the switching valves, and I see the line to the exhaust manifold, but dont know where in the picture the air pump is? Let alone how to know if its working?

A.I.R. pump is driven by the serp belt. Not in the picture, should be in front of and below the divertor valve, hard pipe comes up from the A.I.R. pump into the bottom of the divertor valve. Pull the hoses off the divertor, and see if pressurized air comes out of the valve, check it immediately after start up, it won't be moving air thru the valve continually.
Re: What part of the vacuum system is this?
I unplugged the hoses from the diverter, and the air pump seems to be working OK. It doesn't shoot strong pressurized air though, it seems pretty weak. Like I can barely feel it until I get real close to the hose, like within a inch. Yet when the air was leaking at that vacuum tree, it was shooting real far, almost to the firewall.
I clamped all 3 hoses and the vacuum leak went away.. There was definitely a leak coming from the hoses, because I tried one at a time, turning the engine on each time I added one clamp. It got better and better each time. Thanks. There is very little rumbling at idle now, though still some. Might be due to my plug wires that got a little charred. Shame since they were expensive MSD wires.
Why did it leak there though? All the engines I've seen come like that stock, with a vacuum tree there.. I never checked but I assume they don't have a vacuum leak problem there. All my hoses look fine. The vacuum tree does have a little scrape, but after clamping the hoses, the leak is gone, so I doubt it's the vacuum tree.
