TBI has to have ether to start
Hey Fellas,
I have a 89 Camaro rs with the 305. It has a TBI . I can only start the car with ether but once it cranks it runs fine. I can drive it down the road with no problem. It only takes a small squirt of ether but it is a pain when every time you cut it off I have to open the hood. I just put a new fuel relay in it and I hear the fuel pump come on. I have spark to the injector wires when I turn the key on. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: TBI has to have ether to start
You're in the carb forum. But anywho, is it happening only for the first start or when it is cold, or everytime you have to start it?
Just read that you have to do it everytime. I had a Blazer that was like that, the fuel pump wasn't creating enough pressure to start the car, but once some ether was introduced and it was running it would run fine. Turned out to be a bad fuel pump, of course that was on a high pressure system. I would get a fuel pressure test kit for TBI (not the normal schrader valve) and see where you fuel pressure is at.

Re: TBI has to have ether to start
Thanks for the info Mcgarnicle, I will definitely try the fuel press. test this weekend. I realized after I posted that it was in the carb forum but did not know how to change it. Its tough being a newbie. I turned the car on today and noticed the fuel pump stays running after the 2 seconds its supposed to cut off. It does not cut off and I ran the wire coming from the pump down and it is hooked into the fuse box by being wrapped around the fuse and pushed up into the box where it has constant power. I do not know where it has to be actually hooked into the fuse box. It is a red wire and I don't know if that has something to do with it cranking without ether. Any suggestions would sure be appreciated and thanks for the help.
