My TBI surge idle shut off at light finally fixed!!!!

Ok this was my fix. I've down número use searches and reading forums with no fixes!! So here's mine

The problem:
I could drive the car on a warm day for about 20 mins on the freeway fine as soon as I get into traffic light traffic the car would jump idle and then stall at a light. Start up fine but had a horrible throttle response and act like it was starving for fuel and then catch then smell like it was super rich

Parts looks at and replaced. I did pull a code but that didn't help

Distributor. I ended up replacing it because taking a look at it I broke the star in it ( name blank right now) and figures I was going to replace the Ignition control module. Cape a rotor as well and plugs. No fix

When ahead and replace ignition coil since I replaced dizzy. No fix

I did check my coolant temp sensor and was fine

I looked for vacuum leaks and passed that as well

I rep built the TBI and clean Idle air control no fix

I did thick the MAP sensor as per the book. And the tested passed

I when ahead and pulled tank checked fuel pump sock and decided to change all that since that's a pain in the *** to get too anyways fuel filter cleaned fuel lines no fix

Then driving back the other day it acted up again I got under the hood and started moving connectors around and then something happened. I messed with the map sensor connector and the car coughed. I messed with the vacuum line and it coughed. I tapped the MAP sensor and it signed and then Died. I messed with it more checked the vacuum line again but every time on tapped it it would die.

I replaced the MAP SENSOR EVEN THOUGH THE VOLTAGE SHOW IT WAS WORKING RIGHT.

The car is fine now this was a long two weeks for me and hope this helps some of you

Wow, you really found an oddball! Congrats on sticking with it until you fixed it.

I had a TBI that wouldn't start sometimes, usually when cold. Turned out one of the wires that went to the Coolant Temp Sensor had worn through to copper making a turn around a sharp piece of metal. It wore through the wiring loom plastic AND the insulation of one of the CTS wires and was grounding out. It read full-hot (255*F, I believe is the top of the range) from time to time as it would ground or not ground, depending on what mood it was in that day. Drove me nuts for weeks, maybe months. Fixed it and never a problem after that.

Hopefully yours will stay fixed, too.

I have a very simular problem. Actually two. One was a vacuum leak that was finally fixed by replacing the EGR valve. For the other I just replaced the 24 year old MAP sensor in hopes of fixing the stalling at a light problem . So its nice to here it could be the right move. ( $59.99 BWD brand ).

Cool brother I hope it does fix it for you. Like I said I tested the MAP sensor as the book says for voltage and all it it passed so I moved on. But yes vacuum is alway my first check. If the vacuum line looks like it might be cracked change it
