Fuel pump problems
Fuel pump problems
Hello. I have a 1991 Camaro that came with a v6 and had a Chevy 350 swaped in its place. It is tbi. The car still uses the pump in the tank. I was driving and the car just stopped. I figured out the fuel pump is not kicking in. The pump itself is good. And the relay is good. When you put power to the gray wire (at the relay) it turns on. So the wires from the engine bay back are good. Theirs a gray wire, red wire, orange wire, blue wire, and black wire. The gray wire goes to the pump (good) the orange is
Constant 12v (good) the black is ground I belive. I'm not sure what the blue and red wire do but the red wire is stripped at the end (not connected to anything) when you put power to that wire the pump comes on (all the time) any help would be appreciated. Just not sure what to do next. And the relay I replaced just to make sure that's good.

Re: Fuel pump problems
The red wire that is stripped on the end should have had a fast-on connector on it. This is a test connector, as you found out placing +12 volts on it runs the pump.
The blue wire is likely +12 volts from the ECM to turn on the relay.
There is an inline fuse that needs to be checked. Under the hood, right hand side, inline of a heavy black wire. Runs from the radiator support to the firewall.

Re: Fuel pump problems
So give me a run down. If tested with a test light, what wires should have power? I think the orange should have constant power? And the red should never have power cuz that's just for testing the pump. And the Black is ground so that shouldn't have power. The blue should have power for a few seconds when the key is turned, to prime the car. Just let me know if these are correct. And let me know about any other wires I'm unsure of.

Here is a 91 3.1 wiring diagram
http://austinthirdgen.org/mkportal/m...ine_wiring.gif
I just went through this on my 91 305 TBI to Carb swap ...
Do you hear the 2 second prime when you first turn the key ? The ECM gives you that 2 second prime....
Did you check the fuse like Rbob said to ?
Once started after the 2 second prime the oil pressure switch senses adequate oil pressure and keeps the fuel pump running as long as you have good oil pressure. My oil pressure switch was bad - $33 at autozone and it was fixed.
