91 caprice tbi
91 caprice tbi
Hey guys,
I have a 91 caprice with a lo3 engine tbi. I was wondering if any of you have swapped the tbi with a tpi from the lt1 or l99. Could you please guide me or link me to a previous thread if someone has done this before. I can't seem to find one. Also was thinking to swap the cam for the lt1 and the ecu from the lt1 as well. Is this possible as such ??
Thanks.

Re: 91 caprice tbi
possible? sure. but here's why you shouldn't.
there's no developed method for taking timing reference for an LT1 from a regular distributor.
could you figure one out? absolutely. but it's more work than its worth. we're talking either a signal conversion here, a bunch of hacky assembly that may or may not be possible, or gutting an opti for a timing wheel and front-mounting it.
of course your distributor wouldn't fit either, but you could cut the hole, which is machine shop stuff.
the LT1 wont directly bolt up to the LO3's heads. it's designed as a dry manifold for a reverse flow cooling system with a crossover tube (GEN-II stuff, you're GEN-I).
again, where there's a will there's a way, but i wouldn't bother.
the LT1 intake's runner length is also terrible for an engine like the LO3.
so in summary, bad idea.
you might as well buy an entire lt1.
that way you get the correct timing cover from the opti, the nicer aluminum heads, way more power potential, and it'll all 'just work' (with way less effort in the end)
