Re: Want to max my 305 sorta
I would do what you can to achieve a better air intake and a better output with headers and better Y pipe like you mentioned into the 3in cat into a 3in cat back.
Then other then regular maintenance and changing bolt on items as you go using performance parts where you can then I would leave the 5.0 alone .
I would be looking at your rear differential.
If your stock and have a manual transmission you have the 3.08 ratio. If your auto trans. than its the 2.73 ratio and if you don't have the G92 option in you RPO codes its an open differential. = No Posi/L.S.D.
The only way to really know what's in there is to pull the cover and look.
It most likely needs the oil changed anyway.
There are a few different ways to change your ratio and install a L.S.D..
It depends on what your going to be doing with/ driving habits/ tires/etc. the car as to how strong you will need it.
Dropping a 400hp engine in with slicks will require a stronger rear then a ten bolt. But.....with my little 5.0 ,automatic transmission and street tires a built 10 Bolt has served me well.
Switching from a 2.73 open differential to a 3.42 ratio with posi unit was a
HUGE performance improvement . From the way it jumped off the line to the way it handled around town.
Hands down the best mod I could have done to the car.
