AMEN! Car runs great after intake install
After battling vacuum leaks, gasket failure, and timing problems the car is now running great. I set the base timing to about 4*. I didn't mess with fuel pressure or anthing else. The car feels like it has a little more power, pulls stronger to redline than before, but no real SOTP differnece. Same low end power, maybe just a little smoother and stronger to redline. I will feel a greater increase in power when I get headers, AFPR, and timing bump. Right now I have to much air going into the motor and not enough out. If I had to do it all over again I would have probably saved the extra cash and got headers. But for anyone out there that has a motor that has no mods, a $20 open element, $200 intake, and free timing adavance, makes the l03 feel like a whole different motor. That is if you do all of your work. I would like to thank all of my fellow thirgeners for all of their help on this project. I am thinking of writing a tech report on this.
how hard was the intake in stall? im thinking about getting an elderbrock RPM intake and using an adapter plate...since ill have a decent exhaust setup how much you think itll help? i mid as well replace the cam while in there to

The install itself wasn't to bad. It helps to have an extra set of hands. I had trouble keeping the gskets from sliding into the lifter valley. Also You might have to bend the fuel lines a little so that the TBI unit will lay flat. I did not notice that at first and when i torqued the TBI down I stripped all the threads out of one of the holes. So I had to drive around for s few days with a HUGE vacuum leak. As for an adapter plate, I don't know to much about. You might have hood clearence problems. I liked the simplicity of the performer TBI and how everything hooked back up. Some say once you get more mods the intake limits you to about 5000 rpm and than dies out. I have also heard that the performer TBI is the same design as any other performer manifold except for the top accomodations for the tbi unit. I don't really care about these issues since my car is street driven and rarely sees that RPM. Also I was drawn to the fact of ease of instalation. It took me a full day but I could do it now in a few hours maybe less now that I know what is involved. If you have a good exhasut (cat back, high flow cat/no cat, headers) than you should see a bigger gain in power than I did. However, if you do have a full exhaust you will most likely have to boost your feul pressure. Have good tools, extra set of hands, and patience. Oh and a strong back and legs for leaning over for most of the day. I am not a mechanic, just a car nut, and I was able to do it myself in my driveway. I say for it and let me know if you need more detailed instructions.
