89 305 camshaft kit
Hey guys, I did not see a post similar to what I'm looking for and I'm new to this so be easy on me, but I have an 89 camaro with the 305 tbi. Did some work to it, headers, exhaust, smog/AIR Delete, cat delete, new wires and plugs. I'm looking to do a camshaft swap this winter but have been having trouble finding the right one. I think it would be easier for me to order a kit (cam, lifters, valve springs, timing chain, rollers?) but have not been successful on jegs or summit, all I'm finding is for the v6. Does anyone know a decent mild cam kit? I don't want an aggressive one that I will have to change the rear end gearing and such, just something mild that fits with mostly stock parts. Otherwise I'm not sure how to put a kit together trying to match a cam with lifters and springs and all that, it seems more confusing. Any help?
Thanks

Look on E-bay or around here for a stock L98 cam. It shouldn't give you any tuning issues and should give you a lil bump in performance over the "peanut cam"

I have read on here as well as a lot of other sites that there really isn't many cams you can switch to without having to re tune. Even the ones that won't be that aggressive of a difference will still require a tune to get the full potential out of it, but still run ok without changing the settings. I have read numerous posts that the one already suggested will work and I think it was the LT1 cam. I am not very knowledgeable on camshaft specs, so I am unsure exactly what cams you can and cant do. My buddy on here was recommended a camshaft by another member on here who knows his stuff, and he went with that cam on 91 305 TBI. He had to tune his however because it was a mild one. The information I have read, if you are going to put any camshaft in it other than stock, you'll want to tune it, whether it will run fine with or without tuning it. I can ask my buddy which cam he is running and either have him post or I can post it on here. I will say that his 305 TBI, along with his full exhaust upgrade, sounds pretty damn awesome. It lopes a little bit and has a very nice sound to it, but it isn't excessively loud. If I had the money for the tuning stuff, I would run the same cam he is.

Edelbrock has a complete cam kit for the TBI motor you can get from Summit, Jegs, or SDPC. Or you can get an LT1 cam used for pretty cheap. Your idea about installing new springs, timing chain, etc. is a good one. Whatever you choose to go with it will have tuned to get the most out of it.
