Is there supposed to be a gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold?
I've been rebuilding my throttle body, and there's one strange thing I've noticed. There seems to be no gasket underneath the throttle body and where it mates-up to the top of the engine. Unfortunately I threw away all the old gaskets before I found this,so I can't check to see,but there seems to be no residue underneath the throttle body or on the engine to tell me. The rebuild kit has a diagram, and that also doesn't show any gasket underneath the throttle body. Does it really not need one there,or am I just this stupid?

Yes, need a gasket between the TBI and intake manifold. Install it dry, no sealants.

Yeah...you might be right. They came in Fel-Pro plastic sleeves. I thought I bought them from my prime source--NAPA. Might be they came to me from somewhere else.
Those numbers can be crossed at any parts store to match-up with the local brand.
