I'm rebuilding my throttle body. I've taken everything apart already,and it's covered in gas from leaking injectors,grease,dirt,and carbon. A couple of the old gaskets are also stuck on. I know I'll be doing some scraping for that,but I want to soak the parts in something to clean them up,and make it easier to get the gaskets off. I've heard lacquer thinner is one thing. Will this hurt the throttle body or hurt plastic?

 

Go to your local parts store and pick up a bucket of Berryman carb cleaner. Soak it in that for a day or two and then spray it down with brake or carb cleaner.

 

i like this stuff, but that doesnt help if you want to soak it

 

Eff a bunch of that.

Go to yer local hardware or home improvement store and pick up a gallon of lacquer thinner. You'll only use a fraction of it, and you'll find it's THE BEST parts cleaner you have EVAH come across.

You'll also find, the gaskets come RIGHT OFF; no need to be scared of those.

Use dielectric (spark plug boot) greeeeeeze on the 0-rings and such when putting it back together.
