Codes 23 & 42

I just rebuilt the motor (see my sig) and I'm getting codes 23 & 42. I know where the code 23 is coming from, the car didn't have the correct air cleaner on it and there was not an IAT hooked up (and there still isn't.....yet). So I'm not too worried about that.

It's the code 42 that has me concerned. I set the base timing to 4* BTDC (I first set it to 0*, but the enigne seems to like it a little better). After I plug the EST connector back together, I am NOT getting any timing advance. It's still at 4* BTDC. However, I do notice that if I crack the throttle reall good (jump the RPMs to like 2 grand and back), the timing will jump to about 16* for a split second after I release the throttle.

I've looked in the book about this code, but it doesn't give many details as what to check and where to start...

Any help would be great!

BTW, the enigne only has about 20 minutes of run time on it and has not been driven down the road yet. The system does goes into close-loop after about 2 minutes of idle (according to WinALDL).

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Mike, any progress on getting a new IAT?
It definitely sounds like you have a EST problem. You're right, it should change the timing as soon as it is plugged in.
BTW, I'm back in town. Lemme know if I can help with anything, or even act as drag-fodder if you get the car running. My car is about due to be taken out for another illegal run.

Hello?

Yoohoo, Mike, you still there?
Need help with anything?
I'm going to be ordering the new valve springs and cam soon, I'm wondering if I can still use your garage.
If I don't hear back from you, I'll shoot you an email.
Thanks for the offer, buddy!
