TBI External Fuel Pump
Does anyone pull off the internal pump, then extend the inlet with a longer piece of (lets say fuel injection hose)hose to the bottom of the tank and then run an external pump?
I am guessing a 14 psi pump would work just fine?
Be easier to change out.
Check pressure would be easier.
No need to ever get into the tank again!
Any thoughts?
Am running a stock 305 TBI.

Re: TBI External Fuel Pump
It can be done, will need to use SAE 30R10 submersible fuel hose. Not fuel injection hose.
The pump needs to be mounted lower then the bottom of the tank. Expect it to be noisy. There should be a course filter prior to the pump to prevent big stuff from chewing it up.

Re: TBI External Fuel Pump
Thanx Rob,
Great tip on the gas line - didn't know about that.
My symptom is when I am down about 9.5 gallons upon starting after being out in town for an extended time will start but will want to die. I bet that I have a problem with the line on the fuel pump connection.
I'm also going to wrap the incoming fuel line with insulation to help with any fuel vaporizing. Live in Arizona and day temps are normally 105 in the summer.
Anyway, I'll get me a external pump. Any suggestions on the pressure to get or brand?
I think spec is 10-14psi.

Re: TBI External Fuel Pump
If you can find a pump that pushes about 190 LPH that will work. Go too big and the fuel pressure can't be controlled (goes too high).
