TBI Injector filters

Hi guys,

I haven't been around here for many years, but I'm starting to have some interest in my Crossfire Corvette again so I'm going over it, fixing all the things that go bad when left to sit for a few years.

I have the injectors out (90pph BBC) and I have a question.....

Can anyone explain what the small hole in the side of the injector is for?
There is a tiny filter fitted there.
If you blow though it with air or carb cleaner, it is open to the 3 fuel inlet holes at the bottom of the injector so I don't really see the purpose.

I'm guessing maybe is is an access hole used in manufacture or to disassemble??

Thanks!

Re: TBI Injector filters

To vent air/vapors out of the injector.

Re: TBI Injector filters

Hi Tom,

I resurface for air every few years

I got the car running and thought that one injector looked like it was spraying less than the other, so I removed it and saw that the little side filter was not installed.
They are probably both like that, I haven't checked yet.

I found a few places in the US that sold the filters, but they all wanted $50 to post the $2 parts, so I just reinstalled the injector without them

I have put together a new tuning laptop and I'm about 2 weeks away from hitting the road and getting it all sorted. Then it will probably sit for another 7 years

Hell Yeah Ben! Shoot me some mail when you get it going and let me know how it's going with the Renegade on it. I bet you can get it down into the 12 teens. I just put another new motor in mine. Only 346 miles on it now and going to Lake Havasu to put it back on the dyno on April 25th.

Re: TBI Injector filters

Hey Ben...Having some crazy issues with 7747 out of nowhere and will probably send it over to rBob to have a look. Even still, it made 330/300 on an "Australian" dyno dynamics. Added one quart of Torco to half tank of 91 octane and made another 15hp It was screaming for sure and was pulling to 6,200+.

I may go to a Haltech system where I should be able to dial it in better and pull some more power out of it. It should be doable and I have already talked with Haltech about various systems.

Re: TBI Injector filters

That's an excellent result Tom.
I didn't realise you were still using a 7747!

Re: TBI Injector filters

LOL...yeah, I know, I'm still old school. The motor really liked more fuel up top with new cam and heads. I left it were it is and will wait until I go to the track and see how it does. Timing should be ok, 20* initial and 36 total. I may go to 36.5* with Torco or VP, but that's it.

Making any progress with your 84?

Re: TBI Injector filters

My timing is the same. I remember it made 60 extra rwhp going from 32 to 36 deg total

Re: TBI Injector filters

Yep, I had mine at 32* as well being a bit conservative and kept bumping it up to see what the motor liked. Big difference, I'm all in at 2600. Can't wait to hit the track, but I may have to wait until this winter since the temps are going up now here and will be 100*+ all next week starting Sunday. Last test and tune night is May 12th, but again it may be too hot to go. I'll let you know.
