Can I put these 350 heads on my 305?
I've got a disassembled 350 layin around in my garage. Nothin special, just a bunch of stock parts from the looks of it. I really dont wanna go through the hassle of putting the whole thing back together (not enough time or money) so I was thinkin of just doin some nice mods to my 305. I figured since I already have some heads, why not throw em on? I've heard of everyone throwing on L98 heads, and they work fine. I was just wondering if it would be possible to put these heads on. All I know is they're stock, but I have no idea what model they are. So, I guess my question is, would they work, or even how they would do compared to L98 (I know it's hard for you all to tell since you dont know what kind of heads they are) All I know if they're from a 350 that came out of an older Blazer. Sorry for the lack of info...

You should get the casting number so everybody knows what heads they are. I'm going to guess that they're 64cc chamber heads. You'll loose a good bit of compression if you don't get 'em milled down. Get that casting number and we can find out for sure, though.

Actually with a little thinkin, I've realized on my own that I can't use them, or that's what I think. I know they're older style heads, and shouldn't bolt up correctly to my 87-newer block or whatever it is that's different from the earlier styles. Oh well, I guess I'll have to fork over $100 for a pair of L98's

The only difference between post- and pre- '87 heads is the intake bolt angles. Don't mess with the iron L98 heads, but the aluminum L98 heads can work pretty well on a 305.

Where do people find the aluminum L98 heads then? I take it those would be the ones for me to get, if I still wanted to do the mod that is. Do they come stock or do they need to be special ordered?

They're the heads that were used on L98 equipped 'vettes. You might get lucky and score a junkyard set or you could order a set from Scoggin-Dickey or a similar place.
