89 formula 305 TBI idles super rich
I've turned my fuel pressure down to 8 and still idles rich and rough. Revs smooth. Has new distributor and cap, plugs, iac, tps, fuel pump, fuel filter, o2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, injectors, rebuilt tbi, swapped map from my roller and nothing has changed. Only thing I got left is ecm and a new map but ecm seems to be working. I have some data logs I just got but will only allow one at a time. I tried swapping ecms with my roller but it wouldn't even fire injectors. Any ideas? Every once in awhile will idle smooth no issues until you rev it any then it's back to super rich and rough.
Re: 89 formula 305 TBI idles super rich
HOW do you know it's "super rich"? Smell? O2 sensor readings? Black spark plugs? Something else?
Misfire--including lean misfire--will "smell" rich; especially if the catalyst is defective, missing, or too cold to function. This would also account for the rough idle--it's misfiring.
Describe the data stream from the ECM when it's running rough. What is the coolant temp? What is the short- and long-term fuel trims? What is the O2 sensor voltage and cross-counts? Other sensors? EGR working properly, not stuck open?

Your not stating some key information.
what year is the car 88 or 89-92 ?
is this $61 mask ? What was the donor car ecm a 1228746 ?
are you datalogging with winaldl or tuner pro ?

Donor car ecm was also tbi. It was a remanufactured ecm. 89 tbi formula. Winaldl is what we used.

Re: 89 formula 305 TBI idles super rich
If the donor car is 89-92 it would have the same ecm.
try swapping the prom as well. The vats might be programmed out. Could also be a prom issue if custom tuned. Not a fan of winaldl.

Swapped the prom when we swapped ecms. Should we try it without swapping the prom? Not sure what year the other ecm is either. The roller is a 89 formula but dash was swapped.

Can’t hurt trying it with the old prom. If you don’t have the ecm service number list the prom letters and I’ll identify what ecm it was used in.

That ecm should work, the prom letters I’m referring to are on the other side on a silver sticker.
datalogging with tunerpro might help and attach as a zip here.

That’s a good 89 305 manual prom but does contain vats.

Mine has vats also. I have key for other car but its jammed in the ignition. Swapping chips work? It would crank and no light but wouldnt fire injectors. Ecm is the only thing other than map that isnt new.

Re: 89 formula 305 TBI idles super rich
Sounds like your reman ecm is bad.
I think 77-8746 is a cardone . It was used in f body tbi 89-92
if your ecm was good it should even fire up without prom in limp home mode.

Re: 89 formula 305 TBI idles super rich
I think the car is running in limp mode now. It idles super rich but can hold any rpm over 1300 smooth no missed or anything. It isnt missing at low idle either just rough idle from being rich. Even with the fuel pressure turned down to 8psi its rich but revs smooth. Think prom could be bad?

Re: 89 formula 305 TBI idles super rich
The prom rarely goes bad, if it does you get a code 41 or 51.
try datalogging in tuner pro and past as a zip I’ll see if anything stands out. The only thing now I can think of is cts wiring or ecm being bad.

yours might work I have no idea what you made. I think you need to start dataflow with a 10k resistor.
