What else do I need for this Roller cam conversion...

I got almost everything figured out...Cam, lifters, pushrods, springs/retainers/keepers.

My question is...which timing set do I need?? I found a Dynagear set in Jegs. It says its for SBC OEM roller cam. Is that all I need? Or am I gonna need one of those thrust bearings or a cam button? Or the cam bolt locking plate??

Thanks

Also, do I need pushrod guide plates?

You'll need one of those cam plates, and those 3 bolts to i would think. If you don't have any of the parts at all yet, a cheap used roller camed 305 block might be the place to get roller cam hardware. That way you can see how everything is suppossed to go, and you are less likely to forget anything.

all you need are ht elifters, the "spider"(the thing that prevents the lifters from spinning around in th ehole), and shorter push rods.
the spider is held in with 3 small bolts that screw intothe thick part of the metal between the 2 sides of the lifter valley. if you have a i piece rear seal block they will already be there, if you have a 2 piece rear seal block you will need to drill and tap them, which is really no big deal.
i'll email you about it.

later

What cylinder block do you have? Is it a roller block? Do you have 3 cast / tapped protrusions in the center of your lifter valley?

If you have a roller block, you can use a OEM lifter-retainer system from a donor motor... you can re-use the roller lifters if you desire (NOTE: DO NOT RE-USE LIFTERS FROM ONE TAPPET CAM FOR ANOTHER TAPPET CAM). The OEM cam retainer plate goes between timing chain and cam by bolting onto the cylinder block. The only part that did not swap from my 305 to the 350 was this cam retainer plate. the holes were spaced a little differently on the 350 block. Also if you are using a OEM roller type cam, the timing chain is different than a non-OEM roller cam...the bolt patern in the center is a little smaller for the OEM roller cam. The cheapest double roller timing chain I could find for the OEM roller at the time was $70.

If you dont have a roller block, you have to buy special roller lifters that are linked together in pairs by a metal bar to keep them from rotating in the bores. You will also need a cam retainer to keep the cam from walking into the timing cover. I'm pretty sure that the Non OEM roller cams use standard timing chain sets.

There are two designs of Chevy roller cam retaining plates. a 1st and a 2nd design. Essentially the same but the bolt holes are off by like .3" or something like that. BUY THE GMPP timing chain kit!!! It comes with BOTH plates, a nice true single roler timing chain and gears and the bolts for the cam and the bolts for the plate. VERY worth the money.
