Got a service engine soon light on my 91 Camaro RS 305 TBI, code 24. Speedo, odometer, and cruise control do not work. No loss of any kind of performance or driveability. Replaced VSS on driver's side tail shaft of trans with new unit. Same condition. No change. Please send help.

 

Check and/or replace the VSS buffer. It's either by the ECM, or behind the gauge cluster depending on your car.

You won't have any performance loss, but you'll suffer some definite mileage loss (about 3mpg), and may notice a fuel smell when you shut off the car.

 

im having the exact same problems with my 91 305 RS. i also replaced the speed sensor but that didn't help. please let me know if you find or fix anything.

As soon as I check the VSS buffer, I will let you know if that's the problem and where it's located in the car.

 

It's by the ECM for 91s. 'lil yellow box.

 

my 92 rs has the same problem. theres a little black box next to the ecm. whats that?
