your car wont make power past 5000rpm thats why that your true redline...the stock coil is rated at (i think) 38,000volts...that isnt enough spark power to make anything past 5k rpm if you get a new coil you should be able to go higher...with a new cam youll be able to get more outta it and the more you upgrade the better

Hydraulic roller cams have a limit of 6500 in most cases. Be careful of reving that high though because we don't have the best pistons or rods that GM has used. They might want to let go and smash everything.

Pete's definitions of redline = 1)when the valves float, and she won't rev no higher; or, 2) 1 RPM below that RPM in which a connecting rod parts company with the crankshaft.

my 305 has never seen 5 grand...first off the 700r4 wont **** that high unless you are using a shift kit like a trans-go and second of all the stock coil wont produce enough power to make 6k

My 305 TBI will rev to about 5200, but it falls on it's a$$ after 4500-4600. I have a shift kit and cold air induction with K&N. Even if you can rev past 5, you'll be faster if you don't.

I have a stock coil, stock valve springs, and use 6000 as a shift point when racing.I accidently hit 6500 once when the tranny didn't shift for some reason.I was manually shifting it from 2nd to drive at 6 grand and it didn't shift. I had to let up on it then it finally shifted.Buy the way, it sounded terrible at 6500. You allso need to know that I AM NOT trying to make this motor last, I plan on going crate motor some day and wanna use this one up. These little lo3's are tougher to blow up then you would think. I know mine has seen some hard use and with 96000 miles it still uses no oil.

I can hold my L03 to over 5 grand in 1st and 2nd, but it's making NO power. When in park or neutral, I have revved it to 6grand before just to see if it would go that high.

But in gear it will pull to about 4 grand and it shifts at about 4100-4200.

The redline is 5000 no doubt. With my 5 speed I can rev it up to any RPM I chose and the L03 won't pull at all past 5000. There's a reason why our torque is rated at 2400 RPM....

P.S. Ever seen the specs on our stock cams? That might help sort out a redline confusion.

DAMN JOKER! I wish my motor used no oil! It would save me a bunch of cash... ;P

They are tough bastards. I put some hard use on mine and she STILL runs like a dream.

P.S. If I revved past 4800 she would sputter, and that's with ignition work.
