EGR Stuck?

I've been chasing a rough idling issue and I'm inspecting my EGR valve on my 91 tbi. Should I be able to press the EGR closed by pushing on the diaphragm with the engine off? If I try to push on the diaphragm through the EGR "window", it will not budge at all.

Re: EGR Stuck?

Yes, you can typically move them by hand. If you have a vacuum pump, you could also try to move it with that.

not sure how your pressing. You can only push up to open the valve.

No. You could lift up on the diaphragm from underneath to OPEN it, though.

If it's seized, it's defective. Usually the diaphragm leaks, but they can fail in other ways.

Everyone who can't remove EGR from the computer tune.

Disable the EGR, don't remove it from the computer tune = nothing but problems with detonation and fueling.

EGR isn't evil. No reason to disable it.
