Is this for real? (intake)

Quote from http://www.goingfaster.com/spo/325_h...hevrolet.html:

305 BUILD-UP PART 1.
Car Craft started out with an 80,000 mile (130,000km) 305 LG4 engine from a 1982 Camaro. They removed the engine from the Camaro and put it straight on the dyno with headers, 3" dual pipes to Flowmaster mufflers, and a HEI distributor with 22 deg total advance. This gave a baseline dyno result of:
197 HP @ 4,000 rpm. 261 ft/lb torque @ 3,100 rpm.

305 BUILD-UP PART 2.
Added an Edelbrock Performer EGR intake manifold, but with the EGR blocked off.

217 HP @ 4,200 rpm. 285 ft/lb torque @ 3,300 rpm.
This is an increase of 20 HP and 24 ft/lbs over stock.
Would an Edelbrock Performer (or similar intake swap) intake instal really give a 20hp/24ft-lb increase, by itself, like this article says? I was under the impression that the actual difference wasn't necessarily that significant... what was your experience with power increase, if you happened to do an intake swap by itself?

I believe what you are looking at is raw horsepower, that is, with no accessories and no parasitic power loss. With all accessories in place, with the motor in the car, you would notice less power gain than advertised at the rear wheels. This is gross (flywheel) horsepower gain, not net (rear wheel) horsepower gain.

You'll still get a good power gain out of an Edelbrock Performer TBI...it's a good intake manifold.
