what is egr?

what is egr?

If i switch to the vortec heads with say a edelbrock performer intaker designed for the vortec heads but it had no erg what woudl this do ? would the car run?could i just plug it up?

i just did the plug thing a while,car stilll runs

u will get a code sometimes thats all

and your water temp while cruising may be a hair higher


anybody reading this know what the casting number is on the quick ratio steering boxes?

or have a link to an article with it?????????

did they have the quick ratio box in 82?
friend says he has one from an 82...........

Whenever the computer commands the EGR, exhaust gases are routed back into the engine to lower combustion temperatures witch reduced detonation so the computer can advance the timing a little more. If you remove your EGR and plug your vacuum lines the engine will run like normal but you will get a check engine light whenever the computer commands the EGR, though. When the computer commands the EGR it moniters some other things to check and see if the valve is actually opening. If it doesn't open or isn't there at all the computer will know and give you an SES light and not advance the timing. So you will actually lose a bit of power if you remove the EGR because your timing wont be adanced more.

Yes it will run without the EGR. If you want it done right then you need to make a PROM with the EGR spark advance table zeroed out, and the EGR VE table modifier set to 100%.

Otherwise it will advance the timing and lean out as well. That's bad.

because it would be getting more spark but not more fuel and fuel ladened exaust.
