a hurting 91 firebird 5.0 tbi

About two days ago my engine was running a little rough and for the first 10 minutes my car was on massive white exhaust was coming out of my exhaust pipes. After checking things out I found out that my fan wasn't running at all. Apparently my thermo switch had gone and i didn't realize it. My engine ended up overheating for a little while doing some damage. The car runs still and performs the same with no power loss, however everytime i turn my car on the same white exhaust in massive amounts comes out for about 10 minutes till i really get going and there is a rattle coming from somewhere in my engine. Any help or is the engine just in really bad shape now?

Thanks in advance

Keep an eye on your coolant level, you may have warped a head or messed up the head gaskets. You should do a compression check and see just how bad the damage is.

mine has overheated to above 260 degrees twice since ive had it because my fan switch went out. i dont think i hurt it because it still runs fine and all but it sounds like you may have blown a head gasket

I hate to be the one that brings up the stupid question, but I couldn't help but notice that you are from NJ. Are you sure that the "White Smoke" isn't steam?

don't run it!!! pull your oil dip stick and see if the oil looks milky. If so, then you have coolant in the oil, and if you run the engine, you will damage all your bearings due to lack of lubrication, not to mention the cylinder walls! Head gasket, or cracked head.
