Old cliche, but how fast with these mods?
Old cliche, but how fast with these mods?
'91 RS,115k miles.
Last night I got an Edelbrock pro flo. Thats all the mods I have for now exept I dropped the crappy muffler off it that was on there. It had only one 1" outlet
Oh and I had a full tuneup, oilchange and my timing advanced yesterday.
Anyway,I'm going to order Edelbrock headers, and an edelbrock performance TBI intake. I'm also having a centerforce dual friction clutch installed.
With just these few mods, what should I see? 15-something on the 1/4 mile?

I'm going to come over there and beat you up for using that proflow air cleaner.
j/k but still, don't use it. I had it on my car ONLY because of hood clearance issues. $15 gets you a drop base 14x3 with air filter from Summit racing! It's chrome, flows better than the problow and doesn't melt if you run the engine hot.
Do yourself a huge favor and junk that proflow piece of junk.
I'm not even going to speculate on what you'll run in the 1/4. Only way to tell is to actually go to the track and run your car(unlike 95% of thirdgen members).
I'm really suprised that so few people have actual 1/4 marks for their thirdgens. You go to the 4th gen boards and every other sig or post has something to do with what they ran in the 1/4 mile. What's up with that?

Hey Jon!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey I am done!!!!
Check it out!!!!
Got the TBI troubles fixed up!
Had to have a special TBI spacer made for me by DC WaterJet with 2" bores for the Weiand intake and the EGR valve will fit fine!
How's your Camaro?
Here's my link!

Jon: I think it's because most of us are a little embarrassed that the car is going to run a really bad time. You look at some of the guys that have done a good amount of work...they've got ET's. It's just people that have just a cat-back or something...they don't want to take it. I took mine for a few runs before I had all my mods though, I only could muster a 17.1, 17.3, and a 16.8.

Snowdog, been a while
glad you're all done, now get into eprom burning and let the real fun begin. When you don't have money for mods you can tweak your car for free, nothing like changing the operation of your engine to make you feel in complete control.
About the thirdgens that don't go to the 1/4, I still don't think there is a good excuse. I went the 2nd week I got my car, only had the SLP headers, that and my K&N I swapped from my 86 sport coupe that I sold. The tranny was slipping so bad in each gear that I had to make adjustment on the TV cable just so the car didn't dwell at valve float for a sustained period of time. I ran a 16.8, a 18.2 (that was my first run), and a 16.6 was my best. I got my tranny rebuilt and it woke up my car big time. I couldn't believe it was that much of a difference, I could run maybe a low 16 if I could pull off a decent 60'. I didn't care that the car was slow, I just wanted something to do with my car! It's better than letting it sit in the driveway at a party, this was using my investment and having fun at the same time. Eventually my friends fell into the sport and we all had fun so it didn't matter what we ran, just try and do better the next time. Then a class mate took his 89 5.0 GT 5 speed down the 1/4 at 14.5 at 95mph and he only had headers. So that was the kicker, I had to do better but didn't have cash, burned most of it on my stereo system. Then my car got sick after I was running it hard one day, time for a 350, all better. I just collected parts that were better than what I had and I bolted them on in stages
. I would have liked to have gone to the drag more often but I had to pay for my hobby and that ment working weekends and many nites
. Now whenever I get the time and money I take at least one other friend and either race or go and watch the drags.
There is a difference between having great expectations and just seeing what it'll do in the 1/4. Take it down a few times, get a best time and mph with weather conditions and post it with your mods. It's food, why else would any of us do the mods we do?
So if anybody's holding out, let me know because there is nothing to be ashamed of. A slow time is a slow time but if you can run faster the next time, that's all that matters.
I know a lot of friends that have SHOs, maximas, other 4 door vehicles, they still go down the 1/4 and have a blast every time. My one friend ran a 14.8 which set a new record for the SHO with the amount of mods he's got. He then broke a half-shaft but it was worth it. The lo3 is NOT in the same class as the z28, irocs, 4thgens, GNs, 5.0s, etc. They were designed like the v6 models but have 2 more cylinders, they're an affordable car with awesome looks and potential.
Please, PLEASE, if you've never gone down the 1/4, try it. The first time I went I ran against a TurboR which ran a 13.4 to my 18 second run, I almost pissed my pants I was so nervous, that was only 3 years ago. If you want to have fun, make small bets with friends about your 60' times, or you reaction times, or what you'll run. It's a game, HAVE FUN, even laugh at yourself if you do something stupid like a burn out off the line,
