I couldn't seem to find the choice I wanted so I had to vote for "not great, better than stock". They're good heads, but their low cost is deceptive. You should get 'em milled to run on a 305, they require a special intake that is a good bit more expensive than a regular intake, they require modification to run any more than .450" lift, etc., etc...
After everything is tallyed up they end up costing a decent amount.

How much do they have to be milled?
I was planning on just using a die grinder and smoothing out any rough edges and giving them a nice smooth flow. Although define mill to me. Are you talking about decking the heads or porting out the combustion chambers? What would happen if I didn't mill them?
An edelbrock RPM performer for L31 costs 175. I can live with that. But if it is going to cost a hunderd or two to get them milled, I will just save money for the $4000, 520 or $5500 675HP 350 I want to build.

Decking, milling, shaving, or whatever you wanna call it. The Vortecs have a 64cc combustion chamber and it needs to be more like 55-58cc on a 305. The new Summit catalog has the amount that needs to be shaved off to reduce combustion chamber size by 1cc...I'm at work right now, so I don't have the catalog with me
. If you don't mill 'em you'll get crappy compression ratio.

How are they compared to the World 305 Torquers?
If they come to the same price in the end, I'll just get the better made of the two.
At summit, the 305 torquers are $310.50 /head
the L-31 are 228.00 /head
Not a lot of difference. I have to find the cost of milling and which are overall better heads.
Also, anyone know if these heads are centerbolt valve covers.
I bought some valve covers last year, I'd hate to waste them.
