Msd Blaster Coil ????

Is it worth it to buy an msd blaster coil (the direct replacement coil), i think it is rated at 48k volts. They run about $40.00 would i notice anything on my stock ignition? I would us pn 8226 right?

I would get it if I was u. As for a noticable difference: your not gonna notice anything unless u change ur entire ignition (plugs,wires,cap/rotor,coil) But the coil is a lot better then the stock unit and its one step towards a better ignition for ur car.

i noticed a difference after installing the coil. It wasnt like a huge horsepower gain or anything. I'd say it was more of a throttle response difference. It felt smoother and runs better. I'm upgrading my ignition because I plan on running NO2 on my tbi one day.

dont get it. just get the AC delco one. I did a tune up with delco parts, but was curious as to whether or not MSD would make much difference. So i bought the MSD cap and rotor, and thier direct replacement coil. NOT ANY DIFFERENCE. Not a smoother idle, not better gas milage, no SOTP difference. Not a damn difference in anything. Save the cash fer somethign worth while. I better ignition system only helps if ya need it....

Everything this guy has said makes sence. We don't have huge horsepower high swirl lots of air and fuel engines! This isn't a formula 1 race car that revs to all hell, we've got stump pulling power. I don't understand why people spend all this money on ignition parts. My idle is smooth and I've got not problems with throttle responce. I have 8mm wires, standard cap/rotor, and standard stock coil. I have the correct spark plugs and everything seems to work better than expected.

edit: Let me also add that I've never seen anybody dyno a difference! Nor have I seen any proof in idle quality on street motors running with pump octane.
Oh yeah, almost forgot why I edited the post...anybody read the HotRod magazine 383 build up that made over 500 ft-lbs with mild parts? Yeah, well did you catch the ignition system? Basic flame HEI coil in cap cheapest they could find.

Hmm, well I don't think our cars need a MSD Distributor or anything like that but getting a set of 8.5 Superconducters and a Blaster coil would seem to me that they would help the spark get to the plug a lot better then factory wires and coil. What voltage does that stock coil put out compared to MSD's and what is the resistence in the superconducters compared to the factory wires?

I know that after I did my ignition upgrade with MSD Cap/Rotor, MSD Blaster Coil, MSD Superconducter 8.5mm wires and AC rapidfire plugs I went from 17mpg city to 22mph city. But I did delete my cat with a 3" straight pipe and I know that has to do with my gas mileage increase but it couldn't have been just that. I know with the factory wires,cap/rotor and coil all new it get 17mpg city. It came from the factory like that new and it was like that on my car until I upgraded. So, I don't know about all this "We dont need this and that" stuff. I agree we don't need a high performance dist. but the other stuff I say makes a difference. But thats just from my personal experinces.
