Fuel Pressure Gauge installation
#2
It's going to depend on the type of fuel pressure gauge you get. If it's a diagnostic FP gauge meant to be used for finding a fuel system problem, they usually require an adapter. This is going to depend on the make and model of the gauge you get. The Snap-On diagnostic FP gauge I use has a schrader valve adapter that threads in place of the fuel filter underneath the car. Others have the adapter thread in between the hard and soft lines near the power steering pump. You can also buy those adapters seperately and leave them there permenantly so you can use the FP gauge any time.
An instrument fuel pressure gauge that installs permenantly inside the car has either an isolator (for mechanical gauges) or a sender (for electrical gauges). You will have to find a way to install them somewhere in the feed line. Most people splice in a tee somewhere on the rubber section with hose-clamps or something, and for the low-pressure situation that TBIs have, this is fine. If you're a little more creative, you can get brass fittings/adapters at any hardware store and make up something that will thread inline at the point the rubber feed line connects to the hardline that goes to the TBI unit. This is a better idea if you plan to ever go to a high-pressure fuel system later (eg TPI) or just for a cleaner looking installation.
So depending on the make/model/type of gauge you get, you'll need at least some method of tapping into the pressurized fuel line, whether it's threaded in or cut and spliced into a rubber section.

What about that fuel pressure tester from Autozone? I think its called The ACRONIII. Do I just screw that thing either where the fuel filter is or where the hard and soft lines come together? Anyone know what gauge I am talkin about? Looks like this.

That guage is from somewhere else I think. $75 or so. It has an adapter that screws into the TBI and the hard fuel line screws into it. Then it has a proprietary T fitting for use with its hose. The AZ guage is supposedly functionally the same thing, but $50. I am going to check it out next chance I get

The actron 3 pictured above works great. I even took the clear bleed off tube off and mounted it inside my cowl hood permantly.
Works great.
