Car smokes on start
Ok heres the problem when ever my motor is cold and i start my car it smokes. Someone i know who is pretty good with cars told me it was valve stem seals. I was wondering if he was right and if he is how much am i looking at to get it fixed. It makes my car look like its a pos when i start it in the morning

could be valve seals or guides, but most likely seals. What happens is after the car runs and is shut off, oil sits at the top of the heads. When the seals are worn the oil is able to drip down between the seal and valve stem and drip onto the piston. After starting the car the oil is burned off hence the smoke at start up. The cost depends on how you approach the situation. If you do this yourself, not very expensive the seals are about $18 from napa. If you have a machine shop do it ( you bring them the heads) it would probably cost about $50 labor. Not sure how much it would cost for them to do everything.

mine does the same thing when i start it in the morning. From what i have heard its not that big of a deal, and not to worry about it unless it gets real bad, or unless you dont want you car to do that. dont think any major damage will be done, but again im no pro and just going by what i hear.
