383 getting TOO hot
my 383 stroker is getting way to hot i think, it was an 80 degree day and my temp held around 240 which i think is way to hot, imagine what it'll be this summer. I have a 160* thermostat already.
I know i have 10.5:1 compression and a really big cam but i think it would stay cooler, if it gets 20* degrees hotter the motor shuts down (its happened before) its full of oil, coolant and all that great stuff but i'm stumped!!!
One other thing, my heater core went out the other day and i just pulled the hoses and hooked them together to bypass it because i dont need it anyway, would that have an effect on it. There has to be someone on this site that has had this problem before!!!

A few things off the top of my head....are you using the stock radiator? Are your fans coming on? Check the ignition timing too. If its a little retarded, it'll heat up real fast.

what are you using for fans? what radiator are you using? does it only overheat on the highway, city, etc.? are you using the stock pulley set up? (asking because an old style pulley set up with a reverse rotation pump doesn't agree).
