I was debating this with some friends, but since none of us has any idea, we were at a loss. Anyways, what sort of gas milage would a big block (well, we were talking about a 440, but i'd imaging all big blocks would be similar), with 4.56 gears and 30" tires expect to get? I said 5-10mpg city. Another freind said 8-12. Any input?

 

Both of your guesses are pretty acurate... the point is, the MPG will be very low... those big bores will needs lots of gas.

i get about 100 kms to a full stock tank. You do the math, i'm too lazy.

 

My truck has 4.10 gears and 28" tall tires. City driving gets around 80 liters of fuel for 250 km (sorry I don't like converting to US gallons) It works out to 10-12 MPG (Canadian larger gallons).

Driving around isn't bad on milage. It's the idle time during cold weather startup that sucks back the fuel. In the winter my milage drops into the 8's.

With the OD tranny I get around 17 on the highway.

4.56 gears and 30" tires would probably be close to the same as mine. Don't be fooled about gear ratio without looking at the tire size also.

Now the car's milage I've never calculated but it was getting about 12 passes down the track (roughly 1.5-2 miles round trip back to the pits) and used around 20 liters. At least it's not into the gallons per mile yet.

 

hmmm... so basically, milage (summer) would most likely be around 10 or so, but cold weather drivng (assuming a warm up idle was used), would be pretty harsh... Alright. Thank you all for your responses!
