Fender mounted blower on LG4?
I've got an '87 Formula with an LG4 and was curious as to what purpose the fender mounted blower that blows on the carb serves? Can it be disconnected? My blower runs for about 45 minutes after I shut my car off. This can't be normal, can it?

It's part of an anti-vapor lock kit they used (and retrofitted, I understand) for a couple of years. How long it runs depends upon how hot the engine was when you shut it off and how quickly it cools off. I have a 180 degree thermostat in my car, and if it's been riding on the thermostat when I shut down, the fan doesn't come on.
In case you haven't traced it down yet, the switch is in the heater return line, attached to the water pump (at least, that's where mine is). It's not a bad thing to have, as keeping the carb cool is an issue in the low underhood airspace environment of our cars. But, to disable it, just pull the two-wire connector off that switch, and it's done.
Two summers ago, when I was running the Camaro at the track instead of the '57, I rigged up a jumper to keep the blower running, even if the switch turned it off. Not sure how much difference it made, but when the rounds start going by quicker as the night goes by, the cool-down period gets shorter, too (not that late round cool-downs were ever much of a problem for me...).
