Went Carb No Computer Anymore How To Wire Fuel Pump
i went carb for this year i am almost ready to fire the new motor up.. i got rid of the computer my question is i am running the minum wires that i need jsut the alt wires the starter wiresthe light wires and jsut as i was closing shop tonight i got to thinking weather or not the fuel pump is hooked into the fuse box or not or if i have to wire it up to run.. can anyone answer this?? thanks
The way that I wired mine was to wire a lead from the ECM fuse to one side of a toggle and to run one from the bottom left pin of the aldl. I ditched the comp. about 2 yrs ago and this has worked fine for me so far. Good luck.
is the ecm fuse in the fuse block?? if so can i just put a wire in with it and then put one wire in the aldl bottom left right?? do i have to ground the switch or anything? and is this bad on the stock pump to have it running all the time or is it fine?? thanks for the help
I left the computer in and it controls the fuel pump pretty well. I left the oil switch in there too. It only turns on the fuel pump is there's oil pressure present. Kind of like a safety feature u know. The ECM can be your friend if you leave it in. It can control your fans, it can control your TCC lock-up, and it even keeps your speedo working if you have a 88-up FBody with an electronic speedo
Painless (or someone) sells a switch for wiring up a fuel pump. It's lighted, is center-off, rocking it to one side is momentary-on (for priming the pump prior to startup), and rocking it to the other side is locked on (for driving). And I think it goes back to center (off) when power is cut (key off), but don't quote me on that.
hey thats cool jza but do i really have to prime the pump?? what does priming the pump do??? maybe its a dumb question but i just wondered.. but i like the idea that pluging into g on teh aldl and runninga wiring into the ecm fuse on the fuse block idea does that sound like a safe way to do it?? sorry to sound rushed but i am just gettting excited want to start thsi motor lol

all your basically doing is getting the carb enough fuel for initial startup and then you turn the pump on for driving. This is to keep from flooding from too much fuel and I am sure other reasons as well. Just wire the switch and when your ready to start, just turn it on for a couple of seconds and then back off and try to start. You may have to do it a couple of times until starting due to the carb running out of fuel, but once your started, just turn it on and leave it on while driving.
pponu4me just wana clarify make sure i got it right here slide a wire in where the ecm fuse is and the onto the toggle switch then one onto the other side of the switch to the g slot on the aldl.. now i dont need the computer to make this work right?? do u have your entire harness out of your car also? something tells me i should have been smart and left it in there till everything was all cool oh well live and learn but what u tell me is correct that isnt hard to do at all and makes life pretty simple.. i think one thing i may do is get a 3 way switch one side momentary one side on and the middle off..thanks for all the help!!!

are you using the stock pump??? If the car had FI that pump is going to put out WAY too much pressure for a carb, most FI pumps run 45-50 psi and most carbs max out around 7 or 8 psi just my .02
I took the ECM out, but left the harness, I haven't gotten around to going thru the wires. Also, as was just noted, if the car was originally TPI, then you'll need a mallory afpr to turn the pressure down to around 4-6 for the carb to work. I got the 4-port for $120 dollars and it's working just fine.
