How to measure valve size?

I've got a set of heads in the basement, for a 2.8l V6, of an unknown year and car. They might even be truck heads! So I'd like to measure the valve size... how is this done? (Yes, I have a valve spring compressor, and know how to use it. ) Do I measure the complete valve as I would see it from the combustion chamber? Do I measure the inside of the port? Do I have to measure the exterior of the valve, but subtract the angled cut on the interior of the valve?

Thanks!

Measure just the valve size?

Just find the diameter. You;re making it too complicated
