How to achieve quick starts....

Car runs good, not the fastest in the world, but runs pretty good. When its cold it takes about 4-5 secs to start. When its warm it starts as soon as i hit the key (which is obvious) How can i get it to start quicker cold? Ignition? Also how often should you adjust valve lash and how much does it cost if a shop does it at a labor rate of $50 per hour.

not too sure if there is a cure for any car really... unless you have top notch (read EXPENSIVE) ignition equipment, almost any car, new or old will start slower when it's cold.

I dont know how often you should lash the valves, but i suggest doing it yourself and saving some money. Chances are a shop will charge you for two hours of labor, even tho if you did it yourself you could finish in less time. Only bitch about is turning the crank, the rest is simple.

My car does the exact same thing, it just seems like it takes way longer than it should to turn over. I've learned to give it just a wee bit of gas and it kicks off faster... still, seems like it takes alot longer than it should...

I dunno guys, on my car I can start it when it's cold no prob, when it warms up it takes a little longer. Sometimes it will start on the first bump with no smoke other times it takes a while and smoke for a bit then no smoke. What's up with that???

Mine starts up quicker at any temp than my buddy's 97 chevy truck When it's warm, all you have to do is bump the key and it fires off, morning isn't all that much different. Non cc-dist. 8.5 mm wires and a Mallory coil.
