got a question about engine cuttin out
anyway the other day i was mergering on a road from the right and neon was mergering from the left he was going about 20 i had to go to like a 5mph roll and i seen him get on it and so did i. I took it to 5k in 1st gear and then she starting bucking alittle bit and i kept trying to take to 4500 in each get but it was hesatating. Usually i shift at 4500 in first ok though all the gears when i keep going to 4500 in each gear. My question is this sounds like a drop in fuel or fuel pressure right? BTW i have an electric fuel pump and i don;t know what kind it is. But do you think a higer gph will help this problem?
The car is a L98 Q-jet with a manual tranny.

There are many possible causes for your symptoms, among them is the fuel pressure. That doesn't necessarily mean the pump is the problem. Your filter is the first suspect. And to go with all that fuel, you need have an adequate supply of air, which means the air filter needs to be clean.
The ignition system could be a problem, since spark energy on a stock HEI system falls off at about 4,500 RPM.
You could also have experienced lifter pump-up, in which case the valves didn't seat properly until the oil pressure dropped and the lifters were collapsed to the correct lash point.
Worry about changing the fuel pump after you have checked all the other items, and after testing the pressure and flow rates of the pump.

One of my problems is i have looked for the fuel filter and it is no where to be found. I looked in the carb where the haynes manual said took it out and there was no filter in there. Like i said i have an electric fuel pump but i looked around and there is no filter by it. so where should i look for a filter?

Describe your car a little more. You say "L98 Q-jet", but no such beast existed. Do you mean you have a q-jet equiped car with an L98 engine installed, or an L98 car converted to a q-jet? The answer could be important.
1st, get a fuel filter in the carb. Somebody took it out. That probably isn't causing your problem, but it needs to be in there before another problem developes (like flooding and fire).
After that, we need more info as requested above.
BTW, stop these on-ramp races with Neons. It's

The car was orginally a 305 with a q-jet. but an L98 was dropped in. ok i will put a fuel filter in there when i get a chance b/c im at school now and i don't have the car. Is there any other place a fuel filter could be? also this is the 3rd summer i have had the car and i have never had a problem since it has been this way.

What year? '87's seemed to have the in-tank electric pump as well, but I've never heard that they had the filter back by the tank like FI cars do.
Where is your electric pump?
