Well after my head cam swap my car eats oil bad 1/2 quart for 110 miles. Its not leaking, no smoke , and the plugs look decent. only thing i can think of is my intake gasket. can i use a little rtv around the intake ports or no?

 

I know when I swapped my intake, I used RTV around the ports. I havent had a problem yet, its been over a year. I'm sure someone else will say "NO", but this is just my experience.

 

Well if you plan on swapping your intake on and off a lot I wouldn't but otherwise sure, just don't use too much. Unusual to lose that much oil through an intake gasket problem without being able to see oil everywhere though.

 

I have the same problem. Cyl's 2+4 plugs fouling. Problem with the setup is aluminum manifold and cast iron block. Unless you retorque in time you can unthread the fasteners by hand. With regard to your question, always follow the gasket manufacturers guidelines for installation. With a stock gasket Edelbrock suggests use of a product they sell called Gasketcinch or something very close to that. What it seems to be is old fashion permatex. You can run some RTV around the water ports for added sealing if you feel the need. I feel that permatex is probably more desireable because once it sets up you will literally rip the gasket layers apart before it will lose it's seal. And the gasket will layer wise have some give to compensate for thermal action. RTV as you know doesn't stick very well, and it peels off easily. Some guys I have spoken to at the Chevy dealer I use seem to like the Fel-Pro printoseal gaskets. I have both, I am not sure which way I am going to go yet. The problem is that with the port tubes installed it is almost impossible to retorque some of the manifold fasteners. Gonna ponder this one tonight over a southern comfort. LOL
