Which is faster?

which car is faster, stock for stock, an LG4 powered Z-28, or an LO3 powered RS (assume same gears, trans, etc., just differences in coupe's weight and engine), also, which has more build-up potential?

I'd say they're about equal, though the LO3 has a bit more power. I've heard of a near stock RS run 15.5 though most are probably high 15 low 16 just like an LG4.

I'd say the LG4 has more potential, didn't they have better heads to port?

Either way on both motors, the cam, exhaust and heads hold the motor back.

the lo3 uses swirl port heads i believe . in 87 the lg4 and the lo3 were exactly the same with the exception of 5 ft lbs of tq . but for the most part , they will run very cloe if not equal

L03 will win, plus get better mileage and all that.

But from a performance venture, they both totally suck. Until you change the cam, intake, and heads, you've got a pretty crappy 305. It was designed just to be a middle engine option, not something that performs.

kind of a toss up. my LG4 has run a 16.2 in the quarter bone stock with the original 90k mile plugs and wires, and its an auto! i think i can do better than that time however, (my roommate raced the car that time and it was only his 2nd time drag racing), cause it got a 2.4 60ft. surely i can get at least a 2.2 which would put it solidly into the high 15s. if i ever race a LO3 in my Z, ill let you know the results
